I would like to suggest that we would have a healthier system if more
people did run for the sake of running. The biggest reason I can't
try running myself is because I'm planning to run for state
legislature. Thus far nobody is running against the incumbent and
there's only one day left. If someone else files tomorrow I'm only
out the ~$20 filing fee if I lose at convention. The one thing I
don't want to to repeat what happened last summer. I was thinking I
would like to run for Holladay city council, but forgot when the
filing dates were. My city councilman ran unopposed.

I ask anyone here. What good is the right to vote if only one person
runs or nobody runs that is worth voting for?

When I run for state legislature I will also take it far more
seriously than this matter of who is running for mayor. I am tired of
people thinking that the answer to everything is more laws. Rather
than working out our differences as people we use laws to badger
others into compliance with what we want or what we think is right.
We then resent it anytime someone tries to do the same to us.

Many of us here love free software in the free as in speech sense. I
love freedom in all forms and wish we would stop destroying it with
party politics and elections that are more about marketing than
anything else.
