I've used File Thingie (http://www.solitude.dk/filethingie/) for some
ad-hockery before.  It isn't particularly suitable for enterprise use,
and it isn't free software, it's cc by-nd-nc, with a commercial
license costing $20 or so.  The license is especially dumb because you
configure it by editing the source, but "nd" means you're not supposed
to do that.

I'm sure there's other similar software with a nicer license out there
somewhere.
