If you want to setup up nagios just expect to set aside a bit of time to
learn everything, but once its setup its pretty powerful.  I actually
use nagios 2.x not 3.x and used their own documentation at
http://www.nagios.org/docs/ to set up mine.

CBOS can be flaky on SNMP support, depending on the version you're 
running.  I've used MRTG on a 678 in the past, and it was fairly 
reliable for the basics.  Cacti or Nagios would probably provide more 
robust graphing these days.
