I agrew with Stuart. It's far more trouble than it's worth. With a little
self-training, you can download source RPMs of the packages you want to
upgrade (like sendmail, etc.) and build new RPMs from them, but some of
them will require newer versions of libraries or libraries that did not
exist for Fedora Core 1.
I think CentOS would be a good move for you because you're already
somewhat familiar with the Fedora/RedHat line of thinking and it's not
bleeding edge or burdened with a short support life like Fedora 9.
