Be sure to use the LTS Server version of Ubuntu. Most Ubuntu versions
are only supported for about a year. LTS Desktop is only supported for 3
years. LTS Server is supported for 5 years. (RHEL and SLES provide 7
years, but its rarely appropriate to use a 5.5 year old release like you
have anyway.)

You'll probably also want to avoid software from Universe and Multiverse
because it is unsupported. Ubuntu has a reputation for for providing a
large selection of software, but it's a somewhat unfair comparison. If
you only count packages in Main and Restricted, Ubuntu is more or less
in line with what RHEL and SLES provide. If you're willing to use
unsupported software, Fedora and Mandriva Cooker are also very strong
and openSUSE is building the infrastructure to achieve the same.
(Just to be clear, I only recommend unsupported software for desktop
use, never server.)
