Hi Jason,
I have been working on this lately also. I *think* the correct method to do this, since samba 3.0.20, is to use the
winbind method to connect linux to Windows AD. That article looks a little dated (2004). This is what I have been using:

Also this has been really helpful to get all the new idmap stuff working:
