This is a known issue.  Try adding 'clock=pit' to the kernel command 
line (usually in grub's menu.lst or in lilo.conf).  That solved my clock 
drift problems.  Also, make sure you're running ntp client to make up 
any smaller differences that may still be there.

I have a dual-core AMD64 machine that basically doubled the time drift. 
  I could actually see the minutes clicking by in just seconds.  Not 
good!  the two changes above fixed it.
