The company I work for is retiring an older RS/6000 from 1999. If my
memory serves me correctly, these are its general specs:
IBM RS/6000 7017-S7A
Quad 262 MHz Power3
4 GB SDRAM
6228 Fiber Channel Card
SSA Disk Array, couple hundred gigs or so.
The CIO wanted to just put it in a dumpster, but I figured there might
be an enthusiast, student, IBM freak, someone who might want it. It
runs fine, but you'll have no warranty or support after taking it.
I'd say the base unit itself (without the ssa array) is worth about $1K.
At least that's what google tells me. We recently bought the 6228 FC
card for it to get it to talk to a netapp, and that card cost way more
than that.
A few caveats:
It's big.
It takes 240V power.
You need to come and get it.
We're willing to give it to anyone who wants it, you just need to come
get it at ELI's colocation center in Ogden. You'll need a few people to
help load it into a truck, as it's heavy and big.
If I do get any replies, it'll be first-pick-up, first serve -- the
first guy that can pick it up can have it. But, you may have to wait a
bit for me to zero the SSA drives.
