I recently tried the ATI drivers for OpenSuse 10.2.  Very easy 
installation and so far it's been stable.  I'm running it on an nc8543 
HP laptop.  I'm thinking of trying the 3D desktop for grinz.  People are 
work are wondering why I don't stick with Wintendo.  It works sooo well 
on that hardware.

Only problem is I haven't run Windows on my main work computer since 
1999 (with the occasional vmware session).  I'd still go with NVidia. 
They have been there for years
