[sllug-members]: Newbie Needs Help

Hi I'm Jared and I just joined sllug. I have been trying to dual boot linux and windows. my windows is already set up and I just bought a new hard drive the the linux half. I've tried installing ubuntu 7.04 and fedora core 7 both screens go blank after the intiall install and I don't know how to change it fedora correctly found my graphics card and the graphical install worked well but when I tried to boot it runs through a screen of text and blank nothing else. so if anyone would be willing to help a noob it would be greatly appreciated.
