My comment was more verbally ironic than anything. And, after all, this is
a mailing list for Linux users ;). Vista is indeed a threat in the sense
that one of the things it does while functioning as intended is make a video
card look fuzzy and audio quality poor, or even shut things down and stop
blacklisted hardware from functioning, etc. Malware is something that, when
functioning as intended, causes a computer to behave badly. Vista is a
threat to the web because Microsoft has the resources necessary to force
most companies to bend to Vista's requirements, which has the potential to
harm other systems' ability to use those companies' products.
I use the word "threat" in this case not to refer to traditional threats but
to less annoying, but more serious dangers to the computer industry (any
capitalist knows that competition fosters innovation). Now, this is
slightly off-topic, so if there is a rebuttal for my comments that doesn't
pertain to the original question about web threats, I'd be glad to hear it
off-list. My mind is open to new information.
