I converted my $HOME to encrypted a few weeks back for the same reasons
you cite. It really wasn't too hard. I planned ahead and used LVM for my
disk so creating the new partition was a piece of cake.

I couldn't find the original article I followed, but this one looks
similar. It might be the one, who knows.

The only problems I've seen so far is that it doesn't prompt me for my
passphrase at boot. That page there references a bug in Edgy, which I'm
running. I'm going to try that workaround out and see if it helps.
