First off, be aware that Vonage is not all that hackable. Last time I
checked, the only way to use a soft phone was by purchasing an
additional number which they would provide you the SIP credentials for.

The PBX of choice would be Asterisk. It's capable of all sorts of things
they charge big $$$ for in traditional PBXes. I recommend a book by a
local boy, Asterisk: The Future of Telephony, available either in dead
tree or PDF format.

Asterisk is a pretty broad topic. What do you have first on your list of
