Thanks for the reply Brad.

My current setup uses a Dish Network DVR connected to the HD3000 via
S-Video. I also watch OTA HD Digital from a roof-top antenna. The DVR
I currently have from Dish is not high definition. I've been thinking
of upgrading. It does have a USB connection that should support
connecting an external hard drive (using the ext2 file system).
However, I haven't been able to get that to work.

I primarily use this setup to watch TV, though I do record shows to
the computer if the DVR gets too full. I don't really have any
information on how Dish Network's HD receiver connects to a HDTV. I
was wondering if it worked like traditional TV, where the receiver
broadcasts on a given frequency (in this case High Definition Digital)
to the Television via the antenna connection. If not, am I then
limited to the S-Video connection for Live TV? I don't recall S-Video
supporting High Definition.

I'd assume that any firewire connection on a Dish receiver would only
be for copying recorded shows to the computer. Or does this connection
allow you to use the Dish Receiver as a DVB device? Is it supported
under Linux?

My current interest is live HDTV. Recording to the computer is a side benefit.
