You'll need to remove all the packages by hand, if X is already
installed.  That may be somewhat of a pain, so it may be better to just
reinstall, this time, not adding X.  Doing aptitude searches may be the
best approach for that.

Further, runlevel 2 through 5 are all the same on a debian-based distro,
which includes gNewSense.  X or no X, your default runlevel should be 2.
 If X is installed, it will launch it, otherwise it won't.
