James,
Considering that a lot of people replied very constructively and positively
to the e-mail that you selectively quoted, I think its safe to assume that
YOU are being more selfish than he was on what should or should not be
discussed here.
At no point did he suggested that any LUG should officially take a stance on
a political issue. There was a lot of active discussion, and he was asking
how people could get involved, and work together to further the views that
everyone commenting seemed to share. He received a lot of constructive
advice, and I think the discussion here is interesting and insightful.
I don't think its appropriate to belittle someone for being excited about a
technological issue, nor to insert unsubstantiated subtle comments about
them being communists or akin to the Soviet Union for doing so.
