So, how do we change it locally?  All these LUGs around here, why can't we get together and figure out how to pressure local change?  I'm pretty new with Linux, and OSS in general, but I do know what can happen when you get a bunch of dedicated, motivated citizens activated.

We don't need to change the internet nationwide.  What would we need to do to get UTOPIA spread throughout S.L., Davis and Utah counties?  Then statewide?  If Utah, which is generally viewed as a backwater state outside of Utah, had blisteringly fast internet compared with the rest of the country, how long would it take for them to catch up?

I've got kids.  I have no problem shaming someone into action.

I dropped Comcast a few years ago when they placed a 2GB/month cap on
newsgroups. QWest is far from perfect. Their news servers suck.
However, they haven't placed any artificial limitations on me. Their
service agreement doesn't restrict me from running a home server. I've
been happy with the speed and reliability.

I just wish more people would realize that Comcast falsely advertises
high speeds. Sure they offer high speeds, if all you want to do is
read web pages and email. Anything else, such as file transfers, and
that high speed disappears.

As for real high speed, no one here offers it. America has been behind
on technology for a long time. Unfortunately, I don't see that
changing anytime soon.
