Yes. If it's a very old machine, you might have a problem that the BIOS won't
recognize a USB keyboard, which may make configuring and booting the machine
difficult. Linux will have no problem, though.

I do this. My home file server has PS/2 connectors, but I use a USB-PS/2
converter to connect it to my PS/2-type KVM so that I can use a six-foot USB
extension cable to make it reach to where my keyboard and monitor are.
