Hi,
I already asked this at work, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask the SLLUGers.
I am putting together a computer for an elderly Russian speaking couple.
I have an old ISA (non PnP) 14.4K modem. I am wondering if anyone has a
better modem laying around (internal or external) that you don't need.
I'll be happy to put it to better use. The operating system I used is a
localized (Russian) openSUSE 10.1 distribution, so I can't use the
softmodem / winmodem because support for those is rather poor on Linux,
it has to be a true hardware modem. Old style external modem connected
to the serial port would work for sure.
I have to mention that one of the guys at work has already answered saying he may have a 33.6K external modem for me.
I also have to find a cheap local ISP -- something in the price range comparable to netzero $9.95 per month. I know there is sisna -- but I have no experience with them. I am looking for a simple/affordable Linux friendly dialup service. If you can suggest something better -- please let me know.
Thank you,
Paul.
