Ubuntu does not have default source entries for some of the non-free
codecs so if you want those you need to google for them and there's
dozens of sites out there with near identical lists, not to mention
several step by step guides for Mythtv setup under Ubuntu.
I recommend using the distribution you are most familiar with. With a
dual core or P4 system your hardware will not be limiting such that you
need every last bit of performance from your CPU so I highly recommend
using the distro you're most comfortable with. Ubuntu and Suse are
great choices for people starting off under Linux but if you're familiar
with building up a system like with debian, fedora and others then go
for those. Almost every distro out there has a good step by step guide
to getting myth up.
