I have been able to solve problems with the DNS in the Actiontec modems by
updating the firmware in the modem to the one provided by Actiontec (don't
bother with the one Qwest provides, last I tried it also had this DNS
problem). Last time I updated the firmware on one of these I had to hold the
reset button until the power light changed color, then disconnect and
reconnect power before it would talk to the network again (though the LEDs
blinked as if everything were working fine).
Neither of these were mine (I cannot get DSL here). They were my uncle's and
my sister's modems, so I am sure I would have heard about it if either time I
had failed to resolve the problem.
