A question about electronics recycling.

What is the proper way to dispose of smoke detectors that contain
radioactive material?

I went to one of the local hazardous waste collection events here in
Holladay. The people refused to take them saying that it was too
expensive to properly handle the material. I was told to just throw
them in the regular trash.

Do electronics recyclers take these? And properly dispose of them?

Thanks,

Kurt
