Thanks for the response.

It was set to 48 or something, but I don't use desktop or
file icons normally anyway, so that wasn't it.

My X.org settings seem fine - resolution is correct and all other
aspects
of rendering are good, so I don't wanna mess with that.  This has gotta
be a library issue at a higher level, I'm sure.
