I'm fairly certain that you do have to get an account with qwest, as they
provide the physical line. I know they offer an option to just have the DSL
and no other service, but I have no idea as to what the cost is.

DSL is probably going to be a bit slower then your cables max speed, however
it also doesn't share lines with other users and your tv (at least I think
that's how cable works, i could be wrong) so you are going to have less
latency on average.

I don't have any contracts.


4.  How does that work with the modem?  Do you just rent one, or can you

You can buy the modem. I'm not sure what qwests policies are, but I have a
cisco DSL router that works just fine with the service.
