To all you that know...
I am not sure, but I think this is really a windoze problem, but I wanted to get
your collective insight.
I have a work computer (Windoze XP Pro) that must stay behind a firewall. I also
have a laptop (Debian) that I would like to use from anywhere to access said
work computer. I am able to ssh to my personal Linux (Debian) server at home
from both computers. I have attempted to port forward using ssh to make the
connection. Work computer has putty and set as remote 3389 forwards to
localhost:3389. And Linux laptop ssh local 3388 forwards to remote 3389. I try
to RD from laptop localhost:3388 and I actually get the RD login screen, and
type my username and password, and that's as far as I get. The screen goes
black. On the XP computer at the office, I get the locked screen stating that
the computer has been locked by RD. Then the connection finally times out on my
laptop. I try to log in locally on the XP and it states that there is currently
a login/logout command running for that user. Finally, after a few minutes, I
can log in again, and I notice that Putty has aborted stating "Network Error:
Software caused connection abort."
I installed TightVNC, and allowed the loopback, and it works perfectly, except
it is quite slow. I would rather use RD. I believe the issue is related to the
fact that RD is making a localhost connection, or a loopback.
What are your thoughts and feelings?
