Hmmm, I've been getting ~150KB/s from home (DSL from Xmission) from
gentoo.cs.utah.edu, and I got pretty much identical numbers from
www.kernel.org, mirrors.xmission.com and other distro sites; I don't
think I'll see better numbers over my DSL line.
I also tried the similar wget's from shell.xmission.com and got
sustained around 1.1M/s from gentoo.cs.utah.edu, 1.3M/s from
gentoo.chem.wisc.edu, 2.2M/s from www.kernel.org and 4.8M/s from
mirrors.xmission.com.
I also tried downloading from gentoo.cs.utah.edu from another gigabit
machine at work and got 14M/s :)
I'll try off-site downloads from our box tomorrow during the day- might
be am issue with our commodity Internet connections from campus or
something. ??? But yeah, 57K/s sounds low.
