[sllug-members]: Forgive a *nix noob,
but I have noob-ish questions :)

Greetings,
I have been reading the discussions for some time now (several months) and
some day I am actually going to attend a SLLUG meeting, but usually I have
trouble w/ my wife's schedule & not being able to swing a sitter.
I am currently running Ubuntu (about to switch to xubuntu, old PIII 450 w/
128MB RAM) on my wife's computer, have been for a few months & so far it is
great. There is an equiv program to every program she ever uses & she hardly
notices that it isn't Windows :) I've been runing XP/Ubuntu dual-boot on my
laptop, but I'm afraid that due to a crappy wifi nic, I spend more time in
windows. I also have a 'media server' in the house (couple hundred GB of TV
shows & MP3) that is currently XP-Pro, that I would like to make an Ubuntu
server but while on a desktop it is wicked easy, setting it up as a server
is more than my brain that has been fried by MS can handle :). I'm pretty
competent in a Windows environment (I also run a small webserver on Win 2000
AS - switching that would be next) but I grew up on DOS & I am very slow to
learn these days it seems (especially reading forums, etc when sometimes
they are out of date, make assumptions, etc). My end-goal is to only boot
to Win for Photoshop & the occasional game.
I am looking for someone that loves Linux enough that they might want to go
out for lunch sometime (my treat of course) to 'shoot the brease' with a
noob to help him get rolling. I don't need you to do it for me or hold my
hand, but I do not currently have any friends in the *nix world & y'all are
pretty close by :)
Besides, it's free food ;)
Feel free to contact me outside of the discussion group, thanks in advance!
