More Home-Made Hardware
Summary:
Using Linux, it is possible to design and build a complete electronics
project prototype, both hardware and software. From concept to the actual
running prototype, a small home-made two port terminal server and relay
controller will be demonstrated controlling a headless Linux machine.
Terminal server hardware specifications:
- ARM7 32-bit ~50Mhz Processor w/256K Flash
- 10/100 Auto-MDIX Ethernet
- 2 Serial Ports
- 4 Low Voltage Solid State Relay Drivers
- Embedded web server
- General device configuration
- Control relays
- Manage serial ports
- Embedded telnet servers (1 for each serial port)
- Dimensions - 2" deep x 4" wide x 1" tall inside project box
Primary topics of discussion include:
- Nifty hardware gadgets, making the terminal server itself
- Hardware design and implementation using Linux
- Software development for ARM processors under Linux
- Linux headless server operation (Look Ma, no monitor!)
If time permits:
- Past hardware projects such as LEDLoad - http://www.jers.net/ledload

Like all SLLUG meetings, there is no charge ...
Most of the standard campus parking lots open to general parking
after 6 PM - please take note of the lot signage as you enter a lot.
EMCB (Engineering and Mines Classroom Building) is 'twixt the
MEB (Merrill Engineering Building) and the new Warnock building
(shows up as construction on the Google map).
One mode of ingress is to park on the north side of the MEB,
then walk through the basement to the southeast corner to where
doors open into a tunnel that leads to the EMCB.
